Lil Nas X has come a long way since his 'Old Town Road' days! The song featuring Billy Ray Cyrus that put the star on the map is now certified 15x Platinum, making it the most certified song in music history. Even more exciting than that, Lil Nas X recently 'gave birth' to his debut album "Montero." This album came out the gates swinging with 11 songs making the Billboard Hot 100 list with three songs in the top 10. While he's taking the world by storm, he stopped by Valentine in the Morning to talk about his brand new album, the moment he realized his fame, life before 'Old Town Road,' and so much more!
Lil Nas X's life went from 0 to 100 and while his career feels like it skyrocketed incredibly fast, he says it doesn't feel like that for him.
"I feel like it always seems really fast to everybody else, but behind the scenes there's a lot of turmoil. It's been a journey and i'm happy to be here. I feel amazing and I feel thankful. I'm already ready to start the next chapter, honestly. It's incredible and it's amazing my entire life has changed. I definitely saw this coming like it's an undeniable feeling. It's like oh my god, this is going to be something major and it hasn't even started yet. I started doing music and I immediately knew like oh my god. It was like a feeling of like energy like this it and i'm going to be there really soon and i'm just getting started."
Lil Nas X posted a video on social media recently from back when he just released 'Old Town Road' and where he was at in that current moment in time and couldn't wait to see where he would be in the next year. When looking back on that video, he still in a sense feels just like that guy in that video.
"All of me to a degree still feels like the same person. I just feel like I imbued differently from other people now and I guess i've definitely grown a lot too. I feel like i'm more myself now again like I was back in that video right then the version that of me everybody else saw."
Every celebrity has a moment when they realized things are changing and things will never be the same again. Lil Nas X shared with us that moment he knew his life was changing.
"I just got signed, but everything wasn't completely 100% done yet. I was back in town back in Atlanta and my cousin was driving me and my brothers to McDonald's and it like kind of hit me like woah everything is different now. It's like should I even be out here right now? like is this safe? like do I want to risk anything? There was like a feeling of anxiety honestly. It was like really scary for a minute. It was like I have money and stuff and I don't have to live with my parents anymore and I have a song that's really growing. It was really scary. I feel like it was the first time I actually felt like I am 100% an adult now I guess. It was also kind of like everything changing at the exact same time. It was like i'm an adult now and i'm also like famous and rich and I have a career. Everything hit at once.
