Are engagement rings worth it?

A new survey shows that a lot of Americans now see engagement rings as more of a financial burden than a romantic tradition. According to the research, people feel more pressure from society and social media to buy an expensive ring than from their own families or partners, and 65% say the whole idea has become too costly. Younger generations, like Gen Z and Millennials, are especially open to alternatives — whether it’s choosing a non‑diamond stone, taking a special trip instead of buying a ring, or even getting matching tattoos. The survey also found that the old “three months’ salary” rule doesn’t really hold up anymore, with most people spending far less and focusing more on financial stability and honest money conversations.
