FAT BEAR WEEK: Vote for the Chubby Champion
The annual Fat Bear Week starts today.
The National Park Service accepts online votes for your favorite chubby brown bear preparing for hibernation season in Alaska. The two-time defending champion is a 1400-pound brown bear named “Grazer.”
Vote at www.FatBearWeek.org.
Livestream cameras are aimed at the Brooks River in Katmai National Park. The brown bears roam the river and hunt the salmon. This year’s winner of Fat Bear Week will be named next Tuesday.
The originator of the contest, Mike Fitz, said (quote) “It’s an opportunity to think about how bears survive. What the ecosystem provides them and look at their individual success stories.” (NBC News)
