Ideal Family Size?

Ideal family size … How many kids would you say make up the "ideal" American family? That's the question asked in a new Gallup poll, and it seems the magic number is 2.7. Most U.S. adults believe two or three kids is the perfect number. But that's just what they say, because the numbers suggest something else. The U.S. birth rate has dropped to a record low of just 1.6 births per woman. That's below the 2.1 needed to keep the population steady. Experts say it’s not that people don’t want kids, it’s that life’s gotten complicated, between high housing costs, expensive childcare, student debt, delayed marriage, and even declining religious involvement. All of these make it harder for families to grow the way they’d like.
