METEOR SHOWER: All Month

Americans will want to keep their eyes on the sky over the course of the next month.

That’s because the annual Perseid meteor shower is officially underway. Most of the country will be able to view the annual astrological event, which gets its name from the Perseus constellation Stargazers will want to make sure to mark August 12th on their calendars. That’s the evening that Space.com says the meteor shower will peak, between 11 p.m. in the evening and dawn the next morning, with as many as 100 meteors visible each hour.

Like most astrological events, you’ll have your best chance to witness the phenomenon farther away you can get from light pollution. Other tips include finding a spot where the sky is wide and open — without things like buildings or mountains in the way. You won’t need any telescopes or binoculars, though experts suggest giving your eyes at least 30 minutes to adjust to the dark. (ABC News)
