Influencer and signer Ana Bárbara Burh Buldrini died at the age of 31 after undergoing plastic surgery with a surgeon she was partying with hours prior, her husband, Elgar Miles, confirmed to the Brazilian news outlet O Tempo via the Daily Mail.
Buldrini and Miles traveled from Mozambique to Istanbul last Friday (June 20) for her planned breast augmentation, liposuction and nose job, which she got in return for promoting Tusa Hospital on her social media accounts.
“She wanted to undergo these procedures to improve her aesthetic standards. It was a dream of hers,” Miles told O Tempo.
The couple, who wed last month, inquired with the surgeon about changing the date of operation from Wednesday (June 25) to Tuesday (June 24) in order to give Buldrini an extra day to recover. The surgeon decided to move it to Sunday (June 22) due to scheduling issues, despite the fact that he had been partying with the couple hours prior.
“We went to the clinic on Sunday just to see the place, but the doctor wanted to perform the procedure without Ana being prepared," Miles said, claiming that he and his wife had been persuaded to go ahead with the surgery.
“The doctor assured me that there were no problems and that everything would be fine,” Miles told local news outlet G1 via the Daily Mail.
Buldrini underwent the procedure and was out of the operating room by 11:00 p.m. local time on Sunday. Miles said he received a photo of his wife recovering while assistants claimed she was still under anesthesia, at which point he "waited for 1 hour and 15 minutes to receive her."
Doctors notified Miles that his wife had died hours later.
“I went down to the ground floor and a doctor said that her heart was beating slowly, another said that she was already dead," he said.
The doctors involved in the procedure were detained at the medical facility but later released from custody. Tusa Hospital denied committing any malpractice and claimed staffers attempted to revive Buldrini after the procedure.
“Despite all efforts by our expert anesthesiology team, the patient could not be resuscitated,” the facility said in a statement issued to the Turkish media outlet Turkiye Today, adding that staff members were cooperating with authorities.
