MONEY: Forgotten Password Locks $220 Million Fortune

It is so important to write down your passwords, so you don't forget them. You wouldn't want to end up like Stefan Thomas.

The San Francisco-based programmer has gone viral this week after the New York Times published a story about how he has about $220 million worth of bitcoins that he cannot access because he's forgotten the password. Thomas was paid 7000 bitcoins 10 years ago and the value of the cryptocurrency has since skyrocketed.

Unfortunately for Thomas, the money is locked in a drive and he can't remember the password. He's only allowed 10 attempts at getting it right before the drive is completely wiped clean. He has only two attempts left and says he has "made peace" with the fact that he's about to lose $220 million. Since the story was published, people on social media have been suggesting possible passwords he could try, like "password" and "12345." (KGO-TV)
