Four People Killed Following Hostage Standoff In Mississippi

A 12-hour hostage situation came to a tragic end after police in Mississippi announced that four people had been killed. The suspect, who was taken into custody, also died from his injuries. Two children who were taken captive were released unharmed.

The situation began around 2:30 a.m. Saturday (February 16) morning when Clinton police were called to the home following a domestic dispute. When officers arrived, they came under fire, and the suspect barricaded himself inside.

Authorities attempted to end the standoff peacefully and were able to convince the man to release two of the children. They were unable to negotiate an end to the hostage situation and sent a SWAT team in.

The SWAT team found four people dead inside the home and engaged and shot the suspect. He was wounded and taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. No officers were injured during the standoff.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is handling the case because the shooting involved an officer from the Clinton Police Department.
