Liam Payne To Play Free Virtual Reality Concert In London

Liam Payne is set to play a secret show on Wednesday (December 19) in London, but Directioners from all around will be able to join in on the festivity since it'll be streamed in virtual reality.

As per Variety, the pop star has teamed up with MaldoryVR for the set and it's free to watch via Oculus Go or Samsung Gear VR headset via the MelodyVR app on the Oculus store. It will give viewers the ability to choose their own vantage points whether that's front row, in the middle of the crowd or even on stage with the star. "I can't wait for this show," Payne said in a statement. "For those who are going to be there on the night, it's going to be amazing… but the fact there will be people from right across the globe watching the live stream via MelodyVR makes it extra special."

In a separate Q&A with Forbes, the 25-year-old star reflected on some other artists that he'd like to experience in VR. "I actually really liked Eminem when I was a kid, so probably Eminem. The Gorillaz would have been a good one as well. I bet you could have done something really cool with it using the cartoon stuff," he explained.

While MelodyVR has streamed concerts and other music programming on demand from the likes of Post Malone, The Chainsmokers, Niall Horan and Bebe Rexha, this will mark the company's first live show. "Liam has always been a great tech enthusiast," MelodyVR founder Anthony Matchett told Variety. "He has an amazing understanding of VR. Secondary ticketing is bad for pretty much everyone involved. We hope that VR can be an alternative."
