Gwen Stefani Performs 'When I Was A Little Girl' On 'Today' Show (VIDEO)

Gwen Stefani brought the Christmas spirit to the “Today” show on Monday, more than a month before the holiday, with a performance of “When I Was A Little Girl.” She also sang “Santa Baby.”

Stefani’s holiday album, You Make It Feel Like Christmas, was released last month. The title track is a duet with boyfriend Blake Shelton, while the rest of the songs are a mix of classic covers and new originals the singer co-wrote, including “When I Was A Little Girl.” While the record hasn’t had much success on the Billboard 200, it did reach number one on the Holiday Albums chart.

Following her “When I Was A Little Girl” performance, Stefani confirmed she wrote the song about Shelton. “That is a Blake song. I had this idea, because I remember praying in my bed when I was like 8 years old, like, ‘Who am I gonna love? Who’s that gonna be?’ That fantasy. I wanted to put that in a song, so I wrote song about that.” She went on to tell Hoda Kotb, “You said you could relate to that. I know we all did that. We were like, ‘Who’s it gonna be?’ It was Blake!'”

Savannah Guthrie then joked, “Now if you write a song about Blake, it has to rhyme with ‘Sexiest Man Alive.'” And since Kotb is a Shelton superfan, Stefani assured her, “We can share. I love you that much.” The No Doubt front woman also spoke about her childhood holiday memories. “I have the greatest parents in the world. They made it so great for us. Every Christmas was just magical, so now I’m trying to repeat that with my kids,” said the mom of three.

Stefani will be doing several more holiday-themed performances in the coming weeks. She’s taking part in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, as well as “Christmas In Rockefeller Center.” And next month, NBC will broadcast her very own Christmas special, featuring Shelton and other stars.
